Sugaring 101 FAQ
Where do I store my products?
- You can store your Pot of Gold Sugar Paste either in the fridge or out in room temperature. The Smooth Galore Body Scrub we suggest the fridge so it always maintains its texture and last longer as it has all natural fresh ingredients. We recommend taking out your scrub about 20 min before you shower and give it a mix. Keep it away from water in the shower and then pop it back in the fridge when done.
Do I have to heat up my Sugar Paste, if so for how long?
- Yes, for about 10-15 seconds. Sometimes it is still too cold so you want to put it back in the microwave. Always do it it 10-15 sec increments, never 20 seconds straight for example. The 8 oz Pot of Gold will most likely require you to warm it up twice. Give it a mix as the heat is trapped in the middle center of the paste. You want to be able to easily grab some with the applicator but not to be too hot where it drips. Tip: grab a small ball size amount of Sugar Paste with your wooden applicator, then put the paste facing down, if it’s easily drips its to warm/liquidy, let it cool down.
I saw some blood when I flicked off the paste?
- If spots of blood come out of the follicle after you flicked/pulled it is actually a good sign!! It means that root is dead! Hair won’t regrow there. This is why people sometimes start to see hair be sparse.
Can I Sugar any part on my body?
- Yes! We suggest starting with legs, underarms, and upper lip to get the hang of Sugaring and practice before doing areas like the bikini, face, or neck. Tip: for small areas like upper lip or toes use the small wooden applicators.
Can I exfoliate any part of my body?
- Our key points in the body we should exfoliate are feet, legs, elbows, underarms, and bikini area. Do not use the Smooth Galore Body Scrub on the face as the skin there is thinner and doesn’t require anything too rough.
I saw I had some bruising on my leg (for ex), why?
- It is not normal but it can happen to people who are not flicking/pulling correctly. It might happen when you are starting to learn so remember that it is important that you’re holding down your skin with one hand and flicking AWAY from your skin ( think diagonal), NOT straight up. If you do, you are pulling your skin too strong and when it comes back down it will react. Make sure to check out our leg Sugaring tutorials on Instagram to see how to correctly flick.
How should I prepare my area?
- Place a towel under you, have your prepping powder, bowl of warm water, 2 jumbo wooden applicators to easily alternate if you get one messy (just put one in the water while you use to the other so the paste comes off it), your aloe vera gel, and of course your Pot of Gold!
What if Sugar Paste fell on my clothes, floor, furniture or anything it wasn’t supposed to?
- Not to worry! It is water soluble, literally comes off with warm water! Amazing right!
How long should I wait between Sugaring?
- Normally it takes about 3-5 weeks for hair to start reappearing. Unlike traditional hard wax you don't have to wait for hair to be long, as soon as you see growth (~1/4 of an inch) you can Sugar that area again. It's that safe!
Why does my paste get really sticky and doesn't come off?
- It could be because your body became really warm (nervous to flick) , any sweating, the room you are in is warm. Your environment is important. This is why using the wooden applicators is ideal as you can minimize contact from your hand (temperature) to the paste. Tip: have a window/door open, a fan, or Sugar during cooler times in the day. Leave the past alone and move on to another area, let it cool down and them come back and flick it off. Sugar Paste sticks to itself! BUT if its turned that yellow pastel color with gum consistency it's time to grab a new amount of paste from your jar. You've used it as much as you could which is great, its exfoliated your skin!
Why doesn't my paste stick on/stay on my skin or come out the jar?
- It could be that is it too firm/cold still. If it was stored in the fridge and after putting it in the microwave for 10-15 sec it's still too firm just put it in microwave again, make sure to give it a mix every time as the heat needs to be spread out. Everyone's fridge and microwaves are different but remember to always do it in increments of 10-15 seconds. Never for 30 sec at once for example. It's meant to be body temperature, not too hot like traditional wax which can burn the skin.
How do I get rid of the Sugar Paste I used?
- We suggest have a bowl with warm water by you and put any excess paste there or your used hair removal strips, the paste will come right off them. It will literally dissolve on its own!
Can I reuse the strips?
- Yes! About 2-3 more times max. You don't want to overuse them as they can loose their strength over time.
What type of hair does Sugaring work on?
- All types!
Can I Sugar if I am taking Accutane?
- No. Unfortunately Accutane makes the skin layer thinner and more sensitive than average. We also advice to be careful to Sugar any areas where you have been applying retinoid as that is very strong on the skin. (Usually it pertains to face area)
Can Sugaring help if I have tattoos?
- YES! It helps brighten them and your skin. #thatglow
What is the pre and post Sugaring routine?
- Avoid exfoliating 1-2 days before and 2 days after you Sugar. PRE: Have clean skin. Avoid any lotions or oils. POST: Avoid any exercise, sweating, sauna, sex, tight fitting clothes for about 18-24 hours. We recommend cotton fabric or no clothes to sleep! (if possible)
Can Men Sugar or exfoliate too?
- YES! You don't like a hairy chest? Sugar it! We highly suggest men to exfoliate too as they tend to have rougher skin texture. They deserve and women would appreciate their softer skin!
